송영후 Song Young Hoo

홍익대학교 미술대학 동양화과와 동 대학원을 졸업한 송영후는 지난 십여 년간 ‘회화를 가능하게 하는 구조적 조건’을 탐구해 왔다. 작가에게 캔버스는 단순한 평면이 아닌 인간의 인식과 기억이 집적되는 '예술적 메모리 소자'다.

송영후의 작업은 일상을 디지털 카메라로 기록하는 데서 시작된다. 포착된 이미지는 가상 공간에서 해체·변형된 후 잉크젯 프린터를 통해 캔버스 위에 중첩 인쇄된다. 이 과정에서 비물질적인 디지털 픽셀(Pixel)은 단단한 안료로 치환되며 다시 '물성(物性)'을 획득한다. 기계적 출력 과정에서 발생하는 미세한 오차와 우연한 겹침은 역설적으로 기계 프로세스를 넘어 회화 고유의 시간과 흔적을 만들어낸다.

Song Young hoo, a graduate of the Department of Oriental Painting at Hongik University’s College of Fine Arts and its graduate school, has spent the past decade exploring the structural conditions that make painting possible.

For the artist, the canvas is not merely a two-dimensional surface, but an “artistic memory material” where human perception and memory accumulate. His work begins by documenting everyday life with a digital camera. The images are digitally transformed and then printed in overlapping layers onto canvas using an inkjet printer. Through this process, immaterial pixels are transformed into physical pigments, while subtle errors and accidental overlaps in the mechanical printing process create traces of time and materiality unique to painting.
