어윈 올라프 Erwin Olaf
21세기 네덜란드를 대표하는 사진작가 어윈 올라프는 2019년, 네덜란드 정부로부터 황금사자 기사작위 훈장(a Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion)을 수여하는 최고의 영광을 얻었다. 어윈 올라프는 현대 사회에서 마주하는 인종, 신분, 동성애, 종교, 관습 등의 문제들을 아주 날카 로운 미적 직관을 통해 자유롭게 표현하면서 관객들로 하여금 아무런 의문을 제기하지 않았던 일상에 질문을 던지며 인간 본질에 대해 성찰하게 하는 작업을 한다. 한국에서는 21년, 대구 국제 사진 비엔날레와 서울대 미술관 대표 작가로 참여하였고, 2021년 수원 시립미술관에서 대대적인 개인전을 가진 바 있다
Erwin Olaf, a Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion, exemplifies Dutch art in the 21st century. Erwin Olaf freely explores issues of race, status, homosexuality, religion, and customs in modern society through sharp aesthetic intuition. His work asks the audience to reflect on the nature of human beings by asking questions about aspects of daily life that are usually considered to be mundane. In Korea, Olaf has participated as a representative artist at the Daegu International Photography Biennale and Seoul National University Museum of Art for 21 years, and held a large-scale solo exhibition at the Suwon Museum of Art in 2021.
