조르주 루스  Georges Rousse

조르주 루스는 사진을 매개로 회화, 건축, 드로잉을 아우르는 설치 작업을 이어온 세계적인 작가다. 철거 예정지나 버려진 건물을 원재료로 삼아 공간 위에 직접 색채와 도형을 그려 넣고, 기하학적인 모양이 이루어지는 한 포인트 지점에서 소실점을 맞춰 이를 사진으로 기록한다.

그의 사진은 단순한 기록을 넘어, 구도와 빛, 건축적 구조가 어우러진 시적 변형을 통해 장소의 기억과 역사, 그리고 인간의 흔적을 드러낸다. 회화·조각·건축의 경계를 넘나드는 독창적인 작업 방식은 국제 미술계에서도 높은 평가를 받아왔다.

1998년 최초로 한국에 그의 작업을 소개한 공근혜 대표와의 인연으로 다양한 프로젝트를 지속적으로 이어가고 있다.

Georges Rousse is a world-renowned artist whose installation works span painting, architecture, and drawing, using photography as their primary medium. He takes abandoned or soon-to-be-demolished buildings as his raw material, painting colors and geometric forms directly onto the space. From a single vantage point where all vanishing lines align, these shapes come together, and he captures the result in a photograph.

His photographs go beyond mere documentation; through poetic transformations in composition, light, and architectural structure, they reveal the memory and history of a place, as well as traces of human presence. His unique practice—one that crosses the boundaries of painting, sculpture, and architecture—has earned high acclaim in the international art world.

Since 1998, when his work was first introduced to Korea by the director of K.O.N.G. Gallery, he has continued to collaborate on a variety of ongoing projects in Korea.
