곽인탄 Kwak Intan 

곽인탄은 현재 한국 화단에서 가장 주목받고 있는 MZ 세대 조각가 중 하나다. 미술사에 등장하는 드쿠닝, 김환기, 이우환 등, 거장들의 작품들을 모티브로 머릿속에 떠오르는 잔상을 활용하여 자신만의 새로운 조각을 창조해 내는 작업을 한다. 레진 시멘트로 일상의 파편들을 하나하나 기록하는 형식으로 작은 조각들을 빚고, 이것들을 큰 뼈대 위에 붙여 그 위에 아크릴 물감을 사용하여 직접 붓질을 하며 색을 입힌다. 이번 키아프에 선보이는 “지옥 문 위에 앉아있는 사람”은 로뎅의 지옥의 문을 상상하며 머릿속에 떠오르는 잔상들을 조합한 결과물이다. 작가는 2022 년 6 월부터 북서울 시립 미술관에서 열린 “조각충동전”에도 참여한 바 있다. 

Kwak Intan is one of Korea’ emerging artists, and is currently receiving a great deal of attention in the Korean art market. With the motifs of masters’ works such as De Kooning, Kim Whanki, and Lee Ufan, he creates his own new sculptures by using afterimages. Small pieces are made in the form of recording the fragments of everyday life one by one with resin cement, and they are attached to a large frame and painted with acrylic by direct brush strokes. “Person sitting on the Gate of Hell”, presented at KIAF 22, is the result of combining the afterimages while imagining Rodin's The Gate of  Hell. The artist also participated in the Sculpture Exhibition held at the Seoul Museum of Art (north) from June 2022.
